Matt Duke supports Everyman Charity Night

Keen Hill City supporter Darren Spence organised a fundraising event in aid of Everyman recently and none other than Matt Duke himself turned up to lend a helping hand.
The evening proved a big success with more than £400 being raised and Darren was delighted with the outcome. He said "It's taken a few weeks to bring everything together, but being a City fan and with everything Matt Duke went through, Everyman was the obvious beneficiary."
We'd like to say a big Thank You to Darren for organising a fantastic event and raising such a great amount which will go towards stamping out male cancer.

Waveney Hearts charity match
Two leading Lowestoft Sunday League football teams put their rivalry on hold for the day as they combined to raise almost £300 for male cancer research charity Everyman in a pre-season charity match.
Division One adversaries Waveney Hearts and Jugganauts played out an entertaining 4-4 draw at the Kessingland Community Centre venue in a game where for once, the score was of secondary importance and with pledges and donations still to be collected, the final total presented to Everyman should be nearer £400.

The match-up was instigated by Hearts boss Julian Willimott after he learnt one of his players was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and his Jugganauts counterpart Gary Bond soon came on board by agreeing to provide the opposition – and in a display of community solidarity, the Kessingland Sports and Social Committee provided the pitch for free and respected local referee Barry Ereira waived his match fee along with making a donation to the cause.
Julian Willimott explained “After one of our players was told he had testicular cancer, we felt we had to try and raise awareness and funds for research into the disease and a football match seemed the perfect platform, especially as so many young men in the area are involved in the sport. All the players from both teams have donated their match subs to the total, we’ve had cheques and donations from local businesses and clubs and sponsor forms have been passed around companies and individuals to further bolster the fund – we’ve also had many spectators here today who have dipped into their pockets as well. I’d particularly like to thank the Kessingland Sports and Social Committee, our referee Barry Ereira and of course Gary Bond and our opposition today."
On the pitch, the teams shared eight goals in a see-saw encounter with Jordan Haverson, Chris Mayhew, Scott Hanson and debutant Danny Compton netting for Hearts and Steve Head, Michael Marjoram, Terry Brooks and Sam Bond replying for the Kessingland side.
Thank you to all involved in making the day a great success.
Neil Harris Testimonial Match - Sunday 1 August 2010
Neil Harris has supported Everyman since he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, aged 23, in 2001. He has shown remarkable strength and courage in fighting and beating testicular cancer and is a shining example of someone who wasn’t going to let the disease stop him from returning to the top of his game.
His work in raising awareness of testicular cancer has been tireless and his effort over the years has led to a huge increase in the number of men who are more aware of the symptoms.
Neil has been heavily involved with Keep Your Eye On The Ball – an initiative by Everyman, The FA and PFA – which communicates Everyman’s message among football fans. He has supported the annual Keep Your Eye On The Ball run in London every year since it began and has brought with him an abundance of Millwall fans.
Through the Neil Harris Everyman Appeal, Neil and the wider Millwall community have helped to raise a remarkable £85K for Everyman since 2001. This money goes towards research into testicular and prostate cancers at the Everyman Centre, located within The Institute of Cancer Research.
We thank Neil for all his support and wish him the very best of luck this at his testimonial match on Sunday 1 August 2010.
RUN4ALIFE 5K is back!
When: Sunday 26 September 2011
Where: Haigh Hall, Wigan
Time: 11am
To coincide with national Men’s Health Week Wigan Rotary Club and Wigan Athletic Football Club have announced they will again be organising their annual RUN4ALIFE event in aid of Everyman to raise awareness of, and funds into, prostate and testicular cancer. Now in its sixth year the five kilometre event for men and boys only will be held at Haigh Hall on Sunday 26 September at 11.00am, and has so far raised £40,000 for research into male cancers, with last year’s event alone raising £10,000.
Wigan Rotary President Ted Walmsley said, “We are very grateful for all the organisations supporting us, all we need now are for the men in the area to enter the event and help us raise lots of money. Almost 5000 women have taken part in ladies only 'Race for Life' events in the borough this year and it would be great if we could get the same number of men entering this event!”
Wigan Athletic Manager Roberto Martinez is delighted for the club to throw their support behind a worthy cause. “Anything that can raise awareness to prostate and testicular cancer is extremely important and it’s vital to raise the funds needed to aid that,” said Martinez. “We’ve shown great support for the cause in the past and now with the event in its sixth year we continue to get behind them 100%. “To raise the kind of money they have already shows how awareness is growing every year and how people are able to deal with the issue in an open manner. Local Wish FM radio personalities Chris Milo and Dave Ellis are also getting involved by agreeing to run in the event. To get them into shape DW Sports are providing a personal training schedule throughout the summer.
Doyle Hands Over Fashion Show Proceeds
Wolves' star striker Kevin Doyle handed over a massive cheque for £7,086 to Keep Your Eye On The Ball's fundraising manager Carrie Williams.
The money was raised earlier this year when Wolves teamed up with luxury fashion show Harvey Nichols to stage a fashion show, with all profits from the evening's auction and raffle coming to Everyman, as well as the profits from a designated auction prize at Wolves' End of Season Dinner.
Striker Kevin Doyle and his teammate George Elokobi stripped off for a special photo shoot, so it was only fitting that he should hand over the final amount. He said "I have to say I wouldn't have posed for a picture like that if it wasn't such a worthy cause! It was great to see the lads do their thing on the night itself too and a real bonus that so much money has been raised for such a great campaign".
Thank you Wolves for raising a fantastic amount which will go directly to fund our research into prostate and testicular cancer.

Adventurer and actor Charley Boorman supports Everyman
After being diagnosed with testicular cancer in March, Charley is supporting Everyman's Turn Blue initiative. His story entails a fortunate coincidence involving his pet dog Ziggy...
When Charley’s wife Olivia took Ziggy for a check-up, the vet noticed one of the dog’s testicles was harder than the other and explained that this could be a sign of testicular cancer. Charley had earlier disclosed similar symptoms of his own to Olivia so after the appointment, she knew to urge Charley to get himself checked out immediately.
Following a blood test and ultrasound, Charley was diagnosed with early stage testicular cancer in his right testicle. The cancer was a seminoma which is a less aggressive form of the disease.
Charley said: “One testicle was definitely harder than the other. Now and again I’d get a throbbing ache down there, a bit like after you’ve been kicked where it hurts. But it wasn’t really painful and, because I was busy, it was easy to dismiss as one of those aches or pains you get now and again and ignore.
He was operated on within four days of the diagnosis – the testicle was removed and replaced with a prosthetic. He then underwent one round of chemotherapy as a precautionary measure and was back riding his motorcycle within ten days of the surgery. Charley will have regular checks for the next ten years.
After further checks, Ziggy also came back with a clean bill of health.
