Sheffield 2010 race report

What a great start!

Nearly 100 men joined professional footballers Matt Duke and Andy Warrington in Rother Valley Country Park, to not only get active but also raise awareness and funds in the fight against male cancer.

At 10am the inaugural KYEOTB Sheffield run started with the field being lead by Rotherham United’s very own Miller Bear.

Unfortunately, Miller Bear was soon overtaken by less fury runners as the competitiveness kicked in! The first ever winner of the KYEOTB 5K was Gareth Evans in an impressive 20 minutes 13 seconds – well done Gareth. Gareth was followed by Oliver Charlton in 21 minutes and 27 seconds and third place went to Sean Graves in 22 minutes and 2 seconds.

After seeing the 5K runners head out the 10K runners were itching to get started. They didn’t have long to wait and 10 minutes later they were off – this time being lead by Hull City goalkeeper, Matt Duke.

Congratulations to Christian Burley who won the race finishing in an impressive 37 minutes and 43 second. We had a bit of a wait for the next two finishers but it was close for second and third place with Tod Walburton finishing second in 40 mins and 11 seconds and Joe Burton who came third finishing in 40 mins and 35 seconds.

Unfortunately, for the Sheffield runners they still have to run a bit quicker to beat the London runners but let’s hope all the winners return next year to try and beat their time and the London times!

The unique football theme of the run allows participants to run for their favourite football team adding an additional competitive element to the day and it was great to see all local clubs represented.

Thank you to everyone who took part and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2011!
