London 2011 race report

What a great way to end the football season!

For the first time this year we had the 5K runners setting off at the same time and place as the 10K runners and what an atmosphere it created.

An extra congratulations goes out to the 5K runners who courageously took on an additional 600metres as the normal route had to be changed due to repair to the park pathways.

Over 300 runners joined professional footballers in Victoria Park, London, and it was great to see so many men supporting such a worthy cause.

Unfortunately Neil Harris, Millwall striker and Everyman patron, couldn’t take part this year due to injury but not to let the Millwall FC side down there was great representation along the course by footballer Tony Craig and chief exec Andy Ambler.

The 5.6K run set off at a quick pace and our very first winner for this event was Michael Woodruff in an impressive 19 minutes and 34 seconds. Michael was closely followed by Tim Pearce in 19 minutes and 39 seconds and in a third place was a very happy Simon Mason in 20 minutes and 34 seconds.

The 10K runners started shortly after and within the first 1K the front three runners had broken away from the main pack. The top two runners were neck and neck throughout the whole course and it was only towards the end when Lee Haze broke away to finish first in an amazing time of 33:14 – beating his 2010 time by over two minutes. Michael O’Neil came in second with a fantastic time of 33:22 and Rob Sherwood finished third with 34:39.

The sponsorship from the event is still coming in but we hope to raise over £50,000 for Everyman's vital research into prostate and testicular cancers.

Thank you to everyone who took part and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2012!

Thanks also go to the following companies, football teams and individuals who supported the event to make the day such a great success:
